Sanwo-Olu, Obanikoro Urge APC Members To Unite Ahead Of 2027

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on its members to put internal disagreements behind them and work together for the success of the party and its candidates.

The call was made on Tuesday by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Director-General of the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Governorship Campaign Organisation, during an interfaith prayer held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.

The gathering brought together APC leaders, traditional rulers, Muslim and Christian clerics as well as traditional worshippers, as the party formally committed its campaign and the forthcoming elections to prayers.

Sanwo-Olu said the decision to begin the campaign with an interfaith prayer was a demonstration of the party’s belief in the importance of seeking God’s guidance and intervention ahead of the political contest.

The governor urged party members to remain confident that the prayers offered at the gathering would lead to victory for the APC and its candidates.

“We have assurance that all the prayers we said today have been answered. We followed the dictate of the religion by starting our campaign with prayers. We don’t take anything for granted, what we have done is to follow God’s directive,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said the party would now move from prayers to the work required to secure victory at the polls.

“All the party candidates will become victorious. We have committed all our candidates into the hands of God, then we can start campaigning, prayer overrides everything. God will go with us in the campaign and we will be successful,” he said.

The governor also pledged to make himself available for the campaign of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

“What we have done as people of faith is to go out and work for the success of the party’s candidates. God will crown all our efforts. I will make myself available to go on the presidential campaign for President Tinubu and other candidates,” Sanwo-Olu said.

For Obanikoro, however, the bigger task is ensuring that the party does not allow disagreements from its internal processes to weaken its chances at the general elections.

He urged APC members to approach the election as one family, warning against internal wrangling and personal differences that could undermine the party’s campaign.

Obanikoro acknowledged that the party’s primaries may have created tensions and disagreements among members, but appealed to those affected to let go of any lingering grievances.

“Let us disagree without becoming enemies, let us pray and work for the party, let us be united and look up to Almighty God for victory for our great party,” he said.

The campaign director-general, who titled his message “Let God Go Before Us,” said the purpose of the gathering was to place the campaign and the party’s political journey before God.

He acknowledged the importance of organisation, strategy and unity in winning elections but maintained that the party also needed divine guidance, particularly in dealing with circumstances beyond its control.

“Organisation, unity, strategy matter, but we should realise it is through God we can achieve our objectives. There are circumstances beyond our control, we need to seek guidance and wisdom,” Obanikoro said.

He also described the APC’s candidates at the national and state levels as people of proven integrity, urging party members to rally behind them.

The interfaith prayer effectively marked the beginning of another phase of political activity for the Lagos APC, with the party expected to move into full campaign mode as the 2027 elections draw closer.

With internal unity emerging as one of the key messages from the gathering, party leaders are hoping that the reconciliation of members and a coordinated campaign will strengthen the APC’s position ahead of the polls.
