Shaibu Reveals Plans To Make NIS A Global Institution
By Saheed Afolabi
The Director General of the National Institute of Sport (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu has disclosed his plans to make the NIS a global world class institution.
The National Institute for Sports (NIS) recently admitted 200 new students into its various academic programmes after a one-year suspension of admissions.
The matriculation ceremony, which took place in Lagos marks the resumption of student intake following a comprehensive reorganization of the institute’s admission process.
Speaking at the event, Shaibu, explained that the decision to suspend admission last year was part of a deliberate effort to reposition the institute in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have now completed the administrative phase of repositioning the NIS. This is why we have reopened admission for the next intakes. This first set of students is lucky because we have restructured everything from lecturers to the curriculum to transform the institute into a world-class sports institution,” Shaibu said.
The former Edo State Deputy Governor urged the newly admitted students to take their studies seriously and maintain the highest standard of discipline.
He stressed that discipline is non-negotiable, as the institute is expected to produce well-trained, disciplined coaches and sports administrators who will contribute meaningfully to the development of sports in Nigeria.
Comrade Shaibu assured that the management is committed to providing a conducive learning environment and maintaining high academic and moral standards going forward.
