Nigerian comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate, DeeOne, has stirred controversy after claiming that a large percentage of protests in Nigeria are politically motivated.

Speaking on Vanguard’s podcast on April 21, 2026, DeeOne alleged that “about 90 per cent of protests in Nigeria are politically sponsored,” suggesting that many demonstrations are influenced by powerful interests rather than genuine public concerns.

According to him, politicians often work behind the scenes to fund or support protest movements in a bid to promote specific agendas or undermine rivals.

“There’s always an agenda behind most of them,” he said, adding that this trend makes it difficult for Nigerians to distinguish between authentic protests and those driven by political interests.

His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing with his position while others disagreed, insisting that many protests are rooted in real societal issues.
