No Roadside Ram Trading During Sallah, Lagos Govt Warns
The Lagos State Government has warned traders against displaying and selling rams and other livestock on roadsides, highways, road medians and other restricted public spaces ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina, following a media briefing addressed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in Alausa.
According to the government, the ban on street trading remains fully in force across Lagos despite the increased demand for livestock during the festive season.
Wahab explained that while the sale of rams and other animals is a major part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, traders must operate only within approved and designated locations without obstructing traffic or violating environmental laws.
He also urged residents to maintain proper sanitation during the festivities by properly bagging their waste and disposing of refuse only at approved collection points for evacuation by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
The commissioner stressed that environmental cleanliness and public health remain a priority for the state government, adding that enforcement teams would continue to monitor compliance across the state.
Wahab further warned against the use of highways, lay-bys, parks, gardens and road medians for livestock display or other forms of illegal trading.
He also cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, erection of illegal structures and maintaining dirty surroundings, noting that offenders would face enforcement measures.
The government appealed to Lagosians to cooperate with environmental regulations and make use of approved recreational and trading spaces during the holiday period.
