The Lagos State Police Command has detained four officers and disbanded an entire tactical team following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows them harassing a young man in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu.

The officers, identified as members of the Imota (also referred to as Immortal) Tactical Team, were summoned to the office of Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai on Thursday. There, the CP ordered their immediate detention at the command headquarters in Ikeja pending disciplinary proceedings and directed that the whole team be dissolved.

Command spokesperson Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi announced the decisions on Friday during a parade of three of the four officers. The fourth, she said, remains in custody but was not presented “for some reasons.”

“Immediately we got the video, we investigated, and the men were identified to be personnel of the Lagos State Police Command, attached to Imota Tactical Team, there in Ikorodu,” Adebisi stated. “They were summoned to the office of the commissioner of police yesterday. He gave the verdict that these officers be detained immediately, pending disciplinary proceedings, and also that the entire team be disbanded. As I speak to you, they are presently here at the headquarters for further enquiries.”

She assured the public that appropriate action would follow and urged residents to continue reporting any form of police misconduct. The command, she added, will not shield officers who act contrary to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.

The video, which began circulating earlier this week, prompted an immediate internal probe. Police sources said community assistance helped identify the officers quickly. No further details about the young man’s identity or the precise nature of the alleged harassment have been released, and investigations are ongoing.

The episode comes amid repeated public concerns over the conduct of some tactical units in Lagos. By acting within days of the video’s appearance, the command appears determined to demonstrate that accountability remains a priority. The four officers remain in custody as disciplinary processes continue.
