How APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Scored High Marks In Job Creation As Governor

Facts have emerged about why the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu scored high marks in job creation as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.

Investigations conducted by our correspondent revealed that Tinubu did his best to get many youths out of the streets and the unemployment market as Governor.

Part of the avenue Tinubu created for empowerment as governor was said to be the creation of new ministries, parastatals, agencies and 37 LCDAs that opened opportunities for mass employment for jobless graduates.

Some of the new ministries, we gathered, include Budget & Planning, Housing, Physical Planning &Urban Development, Science & Technology, Information & Strategy and Environment.

The parastatals were said to be the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Number Plate Production Agency, Lagos State AIDS Control Agency amongst others.

Tinubu was also said to have made the salary package of Directors in the Lagos State Civil Service at par with their counterparts in the Federal Civil Service, and ensured that workers were promoted as at when due.

We were informed that Tinubu’s government employed over 10,000 jobless graduates and other cadres between 1999 and 2007, and the first set was reportedly called the Millenium Staff.

Tinubu was also said to have improved workers welfare by building new staff quarters and renovating existing quarters.

He was credited as the Governor that improved the punctuality of workers by purchasing 88 Marco polo buses for their transportation, and that to support unions to mobilise workers, Tinubu donated buses to the unions such as the Civil Service Union, Nigeria Labour Congress and the Association of Senior Civil Servants.

To cope with inflation, Tinubu was said to have raised the value of workers’ loans for furniture, new cars and refurbishment by 300%.

In addition, Tinubu reportedly improved the working environment and boosted productivity by renovating all the offices of the government.

He was also commended for holding regular interactive forum with the workers to share the vision of his administration and get their feedback, and motivating the staff with the Annual Long Service Awards across the civil service.

There was also a report that detribalised recruitment was Tinubu’s administrative policy as emphasis was placed on merit.
