LASU Reopens Indigeneship Verification Portal For Eligible Candidates
By Sherif Salau
Lagos State University (LASU) has reopened its Indigeneship Verification portal, giving candidates of Lagos State origin another opportunity to complete the mandatory clearance exercise for the 2026/2027 admission process.
The portal, accessible via the university’s official website, allows eligible applicants who selected LASU as their first choice in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and scored a minimum of 195 to register or revalidate their status. The exercise is a key requirement for Lagos indigenes seeking admission into the institution.
According to the university, the Indigeneship Verification Exercise (IIVE) does not automatically guarantee admission. It serves only as confirmation of a candidate’s claim to Lagos State origin and forms part of the broader admission screening process.
Candidates are required to provide supporting documents, which typically include birth certificates (of the applicant and father), letters from the relevant traditional ruler (Oba) and Local Government, evidence of longstanding landed property, UTME results, and other relevant identification. Payment of the verification fee is made online through the designated portal.
The university has also made provision for previously cleared candidates from the 2024/2025 or 2025/2026 sessions who are reapplying. Such candidates are generally required only to pay a revalidation fee and update their clearance online rather than undergo the full registration process again.
Verification interviews are conducted at designated venues on the main campus in Ojo, organised according to the five administrative divisions of Lagos State: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos and Epe.
LASU has advised all intending applicants to use only the official portal and to avoid third-party agents. Incomplete documentation or failure to meet the eligibility criteria will result in disqualification from the exercise.
The reopening of the portal underscores the university’s continued effort to ensure that genuine Lagos indigenes are properly identified and given fair consideration in the competitive admission process.
