The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has warned Christians against neglecting the payment of tithes, claiming that failure to fulfil the religious obligation could expose believers to problems they might mistakenly attribute to the devil.

The cleric made the remarks in a sermon ahead of the Christmas season, in a video circulating online on Sunday.

Ibiyeomie urged Christians to prioritise tithing before spending money on festive clothing and other personal needs, warning against treating the practice casually.

“Don’t buy a Christmas cloth when you have not paid tithe. It’s dangerous. It’s very dangerous,” he said.

He also insisted that believers should pay what he considers the correct amount of tithe rather than contribute arbitrary sums.

To support his message, the pastor recounted incidents involving vehicle tyre bursts, which he attributed to the alleged failure of drivers to pay their tithes.

In one account, he said two tyres of a vehicle conveying him burst during a journey. He claimed he subsequently questioned the driver about his religious giving.

“I said to the driver of the passenger, I said, you don’t pay tithe,” he recalled.

The cleric narrated another incident involving a driver employed to drive his Rolls-Royce. According to him, two tyres burst while he and his wife were travelling in the vehicle.

“I said, go and check his record. Truth was not a tither,” he claimed, referring to the driver.

Ibiyeomie said he had encountered similar situations involving other Christian drivers who, according to him, did not pay tithes.

He maintained that Christians should not automatically attribute every misfortune to spiritual attacks, urging them to examine their religious commitments.

“Not everything is the devil,” he said.

The pastor also cautioned believers against neglecting tithes during the festive season, warning that such a decision could have consequences for their families.

“I’m telling you this December, don’t tamper with your tithe. Otherwise, they may rush your children,” he said.

He further criticised Christians who, in his view, paid inconsistently or failed to calculate their tithes correctly.

“Many of you are Christians, but don’t pay the correct tithe. You pay as you like. It’s not pay as you go. Pay correct tithe,” he said.

His remarks have drawn attention to his teachings on tithing and the relationship he believes exists between religious obligations and the challenges Christians encounter.
