In a daring move, top financial institution, Sterling Bank Plc endeared itself to Nigerians seeking to register for the re-launched Lagos State Identity Card scheme today by donating 3 million cards to successful registrants.
Managing Director Abubakar Suleiman announced the gesture while delivering his 5-minute goodwill speech at the event which held at the Police College, Ikeja.
Recalling the bank’s enviable track record in public –private partnership, Suleiman said Sterling Bank began by working with the Lagos State government agency, the Lagos State Waste Management Authority 12 years ago.

Since then, it has worked with the Lagos State Metropolitan Transportation Authority by collaborating with the agency on some of its projects.
He said the firm’s collaboration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency on the re-launched identity card scheme is the biggest adding that the company was attracted by the prospects for financial inclusion that the Identity card offers.
According to him, financial inclusion truly begins with the citizen’s access to credit promising that holders of the Lagos State ID card can access credit at Sterling Bank Plc.
Commending Sterling Bank for its innovation and support, Lagos State Government, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu congratulated the company in advance for its planned opening of the first solar-powered, off-grid bank headquarters in Nigeria.
