2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria Thrash Rwanda To End Four Game Winless Run

Nigeria heaved a sigh of relief to get their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on a positive note with an emphatic win against Rwanda in Kigali.

The win marked the Super Eagles first win in the World Cup qualifiers in five matches which came under new gaffer Eric Chelle.

Nigeria came into the encounter with an intent of getting their first win in the World Cup qualifying series, the Eagles dominated proceedings and created numerous opportunities in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Victor Osimhen brilliant finishing skills gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 11th minute off a fantastic assist from CAF Africa footballer of the year, Ademola Lookman.

Nigeria didn’t relent and created more chances. Osimhen grabbed his brace of the game on the stroke of half time with a technical finish.

Rwanda fought hard to break the defensive wall of the Eagles but their attacking threats were tamed by the Nigeria defense.

The win against the Rwandans leave the Super Eagles trailing group leaders South Africa by three points.

Nigeria will take their new found form in the World Cup qualifiers with a must win game against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.
