Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has said transitioning to a solo career after the split of the defunct music duo P-Square was relatively easy, adding that he now enjoys greater creative control over his work.
Rudeboy made the remarks in a recent interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, where he explained that his responsibilities within the former group were similar to what he handles as a solo artiste.
According to him, he was involved in songwriting, music production and singing during his time with P-Square, making the transition to a solo career less demanding.
“Transitioning into a solo artist was less stressful for me. Because it was the same me that was doing everything in the group, with due respect,” he said.
The singer added that working independently had reduced the pressure associated with being part of a duo, as he could make creative decisions without having to answer to another member.
“Inasmuch as I have a team, nobody is going to question me. I have more creative control. It is easy for me,” he said.
P-Square, comprising twin brothers Paul and Peter Okoye, enjoyed widespread success in the Nigerian and African music scenes before their relationship became strained.
The duo first split in 2017 following tensions that emerged the previous year. They reunited in 2021 but separated again in 2024.
Since the latest split, both brothers have continued their individual music careers.
