Commuters now pay more to get through the Oshodi-Apapa road due to the ongoing expansion of one of the city’s major highways which has caused gridlock in traffic.
Recently, transport fare has increased in that axis to N150-N200 from Oshodi to Cele, Mile 2 even the in-between bus stops like Iyana-Isolo, Ilasa went for the same amount “any bus-stop” as they put it.
In conversations between passengers and conductor from Oshodi to Cele Mile 2, ECHONEWS gathered that the masses appreciated the rehabilitation work but suggested that it should be one at night to save workers from stress of gridlock and expensive transportation.
A conductor said the hike was unavoidable as the gridlock made the vehicle burn more fuel and slows down the turnaround time.
He said they hardly made much trips in a day which reduced their incomes while they must pay their usual road levies.
To make up for the shortages, the conductor said they have to charge extra fare from passengers.
Meanwhile, the passengers lamented that they were on the receiving end and pleaded for quick rehabilitation to ease the pains.
