As part of effort to support indigent students, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Isolo-Ejigbo Branch A has purchased forms for 100 students in the community to write the this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Addition and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The branch chairman, Comrade Musiliu Oriyomi Fatai told ECHONEWS that the Union purchased the forms, promising more financial support for the successful applicants.

He stated that the gesture was inspired by the state chairman of the Union, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya MC Oluomo and out of the desire of the branch leadership to extend its usual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the education sector, noting that education is the best legacy.

He explained that the forms were given to the stakeholders including the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka, the DPOs and drivers and members of the branch for onward distribution to the expected beneficiaries in the community.

His words: “In the union, especially in our branch, there are some graduates among us and we observed that there are some who would have preferred to be educated to being driver and that has encouraged us to expand the scope of our usual CSR by supporting promising children in their academic pursuit. The idea of CSR was initiated by our state chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya a.k.a MC Oluomo. He always encourages us to be impactful in our various areas.

He said the decision to extend the policy to the education sector is deliberate.

“We have been doing the little we could in the area of CSR before now but we felt we have to extend it to the education sector this time around and do things differently. We realised that there are countless children out there who have strong interest in furthering their education but their parents are financially incapacitated and that is why the idea of purchasing and distributing JAMB forms became appealing.

“We bought 100 forms to be distributed in the community to the indigent students through some stakeholders in the community which our king, Oba Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka, the Osolo of Isolo is one, the DPOs in the community, our state chairman, drivers and members in our branch. Our prayer is for the beneficiaries to become successful in their attempt because we hope to support the best among them in our little way especially those whose parents do not have the financial capacity.”
