Lagos Launches ₦1.8m Workspace Support for Startups
The Lagos State Government has introduced a new subsidised workspace programme aimed at easing cost pressures for startups while accelerating innovation across the state’s fast-growing tech ecosystem.
Spearheaded by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund in partnership with Lagos Innovates, the initiative is designed to give early-stage companies access to top-tier co-working spaces at significantly reduced rates—allowing founders to channel more resources into building and scaling their products.
Through the scheme, eligible startups can secure funding support covering between 30% and 75% of their workspace costs, with total benefits capped at ₦1.8 million. The flexible structure allows participants to choose support tiers that match their growth stage, ranging from short-term monthly subsidies to longer-term packages extending up to a year.
The programme is primarily targeted at innovation-driven startups that are less than three years old and operating within Lagos. To qualify, applicants must meet basic compliance requirements, including tax registration, and demonstrate clear growth potential and market viability.
According to programme organisers, the initiative is focused on removing one of the most persistent barriers facing young businesses, high operational expenses, while fostering a pipeline of scalable ventures capable of creating jobs and contributing to economic expansion.
Selection will be merit-based, with strong emphasis placed on business traction, team capacity, and the scalability of ideas, ensuring that support is channelled toward high-impact startups.
The workspace subsidy forms part of Lagos’ broader ambition to cement its status as Africa’s leading innovation hub, combining financial support, enabling policies, and infrastructure development to attract and nurture globally competitive enterprises.
