Two associations in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos have declared their interest for clarity over an information disclosing that the Lagos State Government has received the sum of $100,000,000 from business tycoon, Aliko Dangote.

The remonstrators stated that the state government’s idea of sitting the Dangote refinery in the community without compensating the affected residents is a violation of their rights.

Making their agitations known at the Federal High Court in Lagos, the groups identified as  De Renaissance Patriots Foundation and Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum compelled the state government to release informations regarding receiving the sum and what it is to be used for, thus, raising eyebrows on the transparency and accountability of the state’s executive arm.

In the motion filed under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the group’s counsel, Barrister Yakubu Eleto, stated that the livelihood of the people of the community would be destroyed by the siting of the Dangote Refinery without compensation.

Eleto mentioned that the State Government had initially claimed that the land was given to Dangote for free, but the business mogul’s recent claim of paying the sum is a trample on democratic processes.

The case which was filed on September 6 is to be proceeded on September 10.
