Lagos Island Councillors Applaud Tijani’s Water Reforms
Councillors representing various wards across Lagos Island have commended the Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, for his efforts in improving water supply and addressing longstanding challenges affecting residents and businesses in the area.
The commendation was made during a courtesy and appreciation visit by more than 20 councillors from the Lagos Island Local Government Area to the corporation’s headquarters, Water House, on Thursday. The delegation was led by prominent council leaders, Hon. Olakunle Williams and Hon. Badru Ajibola.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Williams praised Engr. Tijani’s leadership and commitment to delivering on his promise to restore regular water supply to Lagos Island. He particularly highlighted the success of the Sunday water distribution initiative, describing it as a major intervention that has eased the burden previously faced by residents.
According to him, the initiative has brought significant relief to households and businesses across the Lagos Island axis, reflecting the corporation’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life of Lagosians through improved water service delivery.
The councillors described Engr. Tijani as a proactive and result-oriented administrator whose leadership has strengthened public confidence in the Lagos Water Corporation. They also applauded the corporation’s management team for its responsiveness, professionalism, and determination to provide sustainable water solutions despite operational challenges.
While expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, Hon. Williams noted that residents were eagerly awaiting the commencement of the proposed Thursday water supply schedule. He further appealed to the corporation to consider involving community representatives in future recruitment exercises to create employment opportunities for qualified youths within their wards.
Responding, Engr. Tijani expressed appreciation to the councillors for the visit and their words of encouragement. He attributed the successes recorded by the corporation to the collective efforts of its workforce and the continued support of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The Managing Director introduced members of his management team, including Executive Director of Operations, Engr. Helen Taiwo, alongside other officials who have played key roles in ensuring the success of the Sunday water supply programme.
Addressing concerns about the delayed implementation of the Thursday water distribution schedule, Engr. Tijani explained that logistical and operational constraints had temporarily affected the rollout. He, however, assured the delegation that the corporation was actively working on sustainable, long-term solutions aimed at improving water distribution across Lagos Island and other parts of the state.
He also urged the councillors and residents to continue supporting the corporation’s initiatives and to convey their appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s investments in the water sector, which have contributed significantly to ongoing reforms and service improvements.
The visit ended with renewed commitments from both the Lagos Water Corporation and community stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in pursuit of reliable, efficient, and sustainable water supply services for residents across Lagos State.
