Don Jazzy Says Not Every Mavin Artiste Will Become a Star
By Emmanuel Daniji
Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has said that not every artiste signed to his record label will achieve global fame, stressing that an artiste’s growth is also an important measure of success.
The music executive, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, made the statement during a livestream with forex trader Habby Forex, where he spoke about the risks involved in the music business.
According to him, signing an artiste does not guarantee that the person will become an international star or generate huge profits for the label.
Don Jazzy explained that the music industry, like forex trading, comes with uncertainties. However, he believes that an artiste who improves after joining his label has made meaningful progress, even without achieving worldwide recognition.
“The forex market is just something I do for fun. Music still takes most of my time, and my other businesses are not as volatile and risky as the forex market. But not every artist I signed will become global,” he said.
He added that an artiste becoming better today than they were yesterday should be considered a success.
Don Jazzy has played important roles in the careers of several Nigerian music stars, including D’Banj, Tiwa Savage, Rema and Ayra Starr.
Through Mavin Records, founded in 2012, he has helped develop artistes who have gone on to achieve different levels of success, including international recognition.
His comments highlight a reality of the music industry: a record deal can provide support, exposure and professional guidance, but it cannot guarantee fame or commercial success.
For upcoming artistes, his message is clear: progress matters, and success in music should not be measured by global popularity alone.
