Daughter in police net for mother’s offence

One Miss Chinaza Philip, whose mother, Mrs. Chinasa Philip, used her bank account to defraud ladies she had promised to procure traveling documents to travel abroad, has confessed to the police that her mother was a dubious woman.

 

The 20-year old Miss  Philip, who was arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrate court, revealed that her mother had been involved in many criminal acts to the extent that she abandoned her four children, separated from their father and had been going about committing various crimes in the society.

It was said that Miss Philip was arrested by the officers of Ejigbo Police Division through her bank account which her mother used to defraud some victims and escaped.

 

The mother was said to have lodged at King Solomon Hotel, where she contacted the victims, Chinwe Obiefuna, Ifunanya Ijero, Mulilat Adeola and others from whom she collected the sum of N640,000.

According to the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, Mrs. Philip collected the money to procure visas, other travel documents and jobs for her victims abroad.

 

“She provided the bank account details of her daughter, Chinaza, where they paid in money. She then collected her daughter’s ATM card, withdrew the money and escaped.

 

“The victims, after waiting for the documents to no avail, reported the alleged fraud to the DPO of Ejigbo Police station, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, who moved into investigation and eventually arrested Miss Chinaza whose bank account was used for the fraud.

“Chinaza told the police that she knew nothing about the fraud despite the fact that her bank account was used for the transaction.

 

“She was then asked to bring her mother. She contacted the mother but she refused to show up and left Chinaza to her fate.”

The police found Chinaza culpable and later charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and fraud.

 

The prosecutor asked the Court to give a date for hearing since Chinaza pleaded not guilty for the police to continue their investigation into the matter to get the fact.

 

The Magistrate, Mr. Teslim Shomade, therefore granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody till when she would perfect her bail conditions.
