The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate allegedly operating in the Alakuko area of the state.

The suspects were identified as Faruk Rasheed, 20; Olamilekan Ademola, 28; and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21.

The command disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X account on Thursday.

According to the police, the suspects were tracked and arrested by operatives following credible intelligence on the activities of the alleged criminal syndicate.

The command said the arrests formed part of its sustained efforts to tackle armed robbery, carjacking and other violent crimes across Lagos State.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicated that the suspects allegedly specialised in snatching vehicles and dispossessing residents of their valuables.

The police said a search conducted after the arrests led to the recovery of three locally made firearms and eight rounds of live ammunition.

The statement said, “A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and one locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.”

The three suspects are currently in police custody as investigation into their alleged activities continues.

The command also said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate who remain at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

“The command remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across Lagos State,” Fatai said.

The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the authorities.

He encouraged members of the public to make use of the command’s emergency lines, stressing that cooperation from residents remains essential in the fight against crime.

The suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
