Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has revealed that he deliberately rebranded himself from the “bad boy” image that defined much of his early career, saying the persona was no longer beneficial to his personal and professional growth.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Joey Akan, the actor explained that external influences played a major role in shaping his public image, but he eventually realised it was time to evolve.

According to him, many entertainers struggle to remain relevant because they fail to recognise when it is necessary to reinvent themselves.

“External forces play a great part in who you become in the entertainment industry,” he said.

“At every point in time, something is serviceable. We can all agree the ‘bad boy’ image was serviceable then. But as you advance in life, you meet important people that your ‘bad boy’ persona is anathema to how they live.”

Jim Iyke noted that knowing when to leave behind an old image is essential for career growth and longevity.

“Not knowing when to exit the stage is a problem a lot of us are having in entertainment. Let’s just say I knew when to exit.

“The ‘bad boy’ image served its purpose, but I had to ditch it when it was no longer serviceable to move forward in life,” he added.

The actor’s comments highlight the importance of adaptability and reinvention in the entertainment industry, where evolving with changing realities often determines long-term success.
