A 22-year old man identified, Akeem Jimoh and his accomplice, Wasiu Afolayan (28) have been sentenced to a year imprisonment for allegedly burgling into a shop and carting away hand fan and handkerchiefs worth N300,000.
The culprits, who until their arrest by the security operatives of Aswani Divisional Police Station, Isolo, resided at Mafoluku Oshodi and Ipaja Ayobo respectively, were sentenced to six months imprisonment each for two count charges of burglary and theft by a magistrate court in Isolo.
Having successfully forced entrance into a shop belonging to one Mrs. Lolade Alanga at No. 1, Suebatu Street Oshodi on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, Jimoh and Afolayan were both nabbed by security operatives at Aswani Market, Isolo after a market woman had alerted the police on suspicious goods brought to her shop for sale.
The prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, told Echonews that after several hours of marauding the area, the culprits successfully broke into the shop and carted away a big sack containing handkerchiefs and hand fans and brought them down to Aswani market for sale.
He explained that the woman whom they intended to sell the goods to discreetly alerted the police when they couldn’t give convincing information about the goods and themselves.
Subsequently, the magistrate, Hon. O. Telumo sentenced them to six months imprisonment for each count charge after pleading guilty to the two punishable count charges.
The jail term is to be served consecutively beginning from February 19, 2018 which the judgment was delivered.
