Ibeju-Lekki Rallies Residents in Sanitation Drive for Cleaner Communities
The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has intensified its push for a healthier environment, mobilising residents across communities for a sweeping sanitation exercise as part of the statewide monthly cleanup campaign.
Spearheading the initiative, Executive Chairman Abdullahi Sesan Olowa led teams to key locations, turning the exercise into both a cleanup operation and a grassroots awareness campaign on hygiene and responsible waste management.
The exercise kicked off along the Lekki–Epe Expressway at Desa/Onosa Town, where residents were engaged on the importance of proper waste disposal and the role of collective action in sustaining a clean environment. The message was clear—environmental responsibility starts at the community level.
At Kara Market, identified as a major waste hotspot, Olowa took a hands-on approach, joining sanitation workers and residents in clearing refuse. His direct involvement underscored the administration’s commitment to leading by example.
The sanitation team extended its outreach to Ibeju-Agbe Community, conducting on-the-spot environmental assessments while encouraging residents to maintain cleaner surroundings. At Eleko Junction, traders received targeted sensitisation on hygiene standards, particularly in food handling and display, to safeguard public health.
One of the most impactful interventions took place at Iberekodo/Museyo Beach, where accumulated waste was cleared, restoring both the cleanliness and visual appeal of the coastal area.
The exercise drew strong collaboration from key stakeholders, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria, National Orientation Agency, and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, alongside council legislators and management officials.
Speaking during the exercise, Olowa, who also chairs Conference 57, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining a cleaner, healthier environment. He urged residents to take ownership of their communities through consistent sanitation practices and responsible waste disposal.
With renewed momentum and community participation, Ibeju-Lekki continues to set the pace in building a cleaner, safer, and more environmentally conscious society.
