Super Falcons: NFF In Dilemma To Go For Indigenous Or Foreign Coach
By Saheed Afolabi
Following the Nigeria Football Federation NFF decision to part ways with the coaching crew of the women’s senior national team, it remains unclear who the Glass House would eventually settle for.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has instructed the coaching crew of the women’s national team to step aside after the abysmal performance of the team at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) and also their inability to qualify for the World Cup since inception.
Despite head coach, Justin Madugu securing a two year contract in October 2025, the Adamawa born tactician reign as the Falcons coach has come to an end.
Announcing the directive on their official X account, the NFF said they arrived at their decision after their executive committee board meeting which cemented the decision to sack the technical team.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect.”
The NFF decision has abruptly ended Justin Madugu reign as Super Falcons head coach after clinching the tenth WAFCON title for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa showpiece.
Coaches are however judged by their last match, Madugu who started his reign as Falcons coach on a winning note couldn’t sustain the momentum as the 2026 WAFCON embarrassing exit brought mixed reactions from Nigerians as some doubted his line up, while others blamed the NFF for the poor preparation of the team.
This sudden situation now leaves a coaching vacuum in the Falcons as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics qualifiers scheduled for October draws near.
