Police nab suspected serial phone snatcher

The police with the support of the vigilante leader in the area, Mr. Gbenga Agunbiade (Soloko) have arrested a serial robbery suspect, Rilwan Fatai known as Ozil, who specialised in snatching phones and bags from people at night around military zone, Ejigbo.

Ozil was arrested after attacking one woman with machete on her way home around 10:00pm at Ifelodun Street, Ejigbo.

The suspect had successfully snatched two phones and a bag from the victim having threatened her with the machete.

The woman with others reported the case to the vigilante leader, Soloko, who was guarding the area.

It was said that Soloko went to search for the criminal and later got him in his house as he was trying to change his clothes and run away.

The suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation and deserved punishment.

It was gathered that Ozil was one of the hoodlums terrorising people at night in Ejigbo by snatching phones and bags with the use of weapon to threaten and sometimes maiming his victims.

According to police source, Ozil is a regular criminal who has been to jail on two occasions for his criminal acts.

The suspect confessed to the police that he actually stole the phone of about N60,000 and sold it for N1000 and that the bag he collected contained the sum of N2000 Which he spent on food at once.

Ozil who has been to jail for stealing N7000 from a Mallam confessed to have sold the phone to one woman at Ile Iwe Bus Stop, Ejigbo.

The Ejigbo police team led by the DPO, CSP Olabisi OKuwobi, said they have been searching for the all others involved in the matter to be arrested.
