Nollywood Stars, Dignitaries Bid Olu Jacobs Final Farewell in Lekki

LEKKI, LAGOS — Family members, government officials, Nollywood stars and other dignitaries on Friday gathered at This Present House, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, for the funeral mass of veteran Nollywood actor, Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs.
Jacobs, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, died on September 16, 2026, aged 84.

His casket, decorated with white flowers, was placed at the front of the auditorium as the funeral service got underway.
His widow and fellow veteran actress, Joke Silva, attended the service alongside their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs. The family members were dressed in matching blue traditional attire.

Among the dignitaries at the service were:
▪️ Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State
▪️ Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, and his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Oluremi Hamzat
▪️ Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor of Ogun State
▪️ Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, former First Lady of Ekiti State.

The funeral mass, broadcast live by Lufodo Productions, is part of ceremonies celebrating the life and legacy of the acclaimed actor whose career spanned theatre, television and film.

The Lekki service followed a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday, September 30, at Glover Memorial Hall, Marina, Lagos Island, where colleagues, friends and admirers from the Nigerian film industry gathered to honour the late actor.

Jacobs’ death marked the passing of one of the prominent figures whose performances helped shape Nigeria’s modern film and television industry.
