Man On Trial For Allegely Stealing Phones

The Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos is prosecuting one Gbenga Emenu over allegations of stealing phones.

Emenu, 37, was alleged to have stolen 15 phones in Badagry area, Lagos.

During the suspect’s arraignment, Police Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, stated that the defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing and fraud.

Emenu, however, pleaded not guilty.

Nevertheless, Ekpo told the court that the suspect committed the offences on February 17, at about 5:00 p.m, at Age-Mowo area, Badagry.

The Prosecutor said: “He [Emenu} entered the shop of one Busayo Oseni, the complainant, and stole 15 phones whose values were yet unknown.

“He also fraudulently collected the sum of N8,000 from one Dakali Sintunji whose phone was stolen at the shop.

“The offences contravened Sections 287 and 328 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

The Presiding Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Layeni ordered that each of the sureties should pay the sum of N20,000 into the account of the Court Registrar.

The case was adjourned till March 27.
