Lagos Govt Set To Rehabilitate Two Roads In Igbo-Olomu, Awoyaya Communities

The Lagos Government has approved the rehabilitation of two road projects in Igbo-Olomu in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Awoyaya in Ibeju-Lekki LCDA.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Tpl. Ajibike Shomade disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting held recently with the residents of Igbo-Olomu and Awoyaya communities.

According to Shomade, the Lagos State Governor, Mr, Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently approved the rehabilitation of the roads and contracted them to Sail Through Construction Company while the supervision will be done by an Advanced Engineering Consultant. The aim is to enhance the welfare of the residents as well as improve the socio-economic activities in the two communities.

In her words, “I am pleased to inform you all that the road rehabilitation of Igbo-Olomu and Awoyaya communities have been graciously approved by our amiable Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and contracted to Sail Through Construction Company and will be supervised by Advanced Engineering Consultant”.

“This is in fulfilment of Mr. Governor’s promise that all Lagosians will enjoy the dividend of democracy. It is also important to state that the approval was also expedited by constant appeal from notable political leaders and community representatives for urgent intervention projects that will boost the socio-economic activities in the communities”.

She noted that the road earmarked for construction in Igbo-Olomu is a 2.1km Road from Owutu-Isawo to Lagos-Ogun boundary and for Awoyaya is a 1.75km Road from Lekki Expressway to the end. The roads will be fitted with drainage on both sides, well-delineated interlocking blocks, street lights and alternative power supply.

While congratulating the residents, Shomade appealed to the community leaders to sensitise their members to cooperate with the consultant and the construction company and caution miscreants against looting construction materials and equipment.

The General Manager also revealed that a larger stakeholders’ engagement involving the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lands, relevant government agencies, and other major stakeholders will be held before the commencement of the road projects.

In his remarks, the Ibeju-Lekki LCDA Council Chairman, Honourable Sesan Olowa, who was represented by Hon. Mutiu Olasunkanmi expressed his pleasure at the goodwill shown to the people of Awoyaya by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

He said, “We all have seen the intervention of the Lagos State Government. We thank the. Governor for this great project. This is one out of many. Let us stand with Mr. Governor in taking Lagos State to a greater height for more progressive work”.

The Community Leaders in attendance, including Chief Fakayode Adetola, Baale of Igbo-Olomu Community; High Chief Eletu Isiaka of Awoyaya and High Chief Ogunlana Saliu of Awoyaya Community, among others, thanked the Lagos State Government and expressed their readiness to support and ensure the cooperation of their people towards the successful completion of the road projects.
