The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area has launched a large-scale business enumeration exercise as authorities move to build a comprehensive commercial database in one of Lagos’ fastest-growing economic corridors.

The initiative comes amid rapid industrial and infrastructural expansion across the Lekki axis, with the council seeking to capture accurate data on businesses operating within the area as investment activity continues to surge.

According to local government officials, the exercise is aimed at strengthening economic planning, improving internally generated revenue, and ensuring more efficient delivery of services to residents and entrepreneurs.

Enumeration officers have already been deployed to markets, offices, industrial estates, roadside businesses, and informal commercial clusters across the council area to gather information on existing enterprises.

The data collection process is expected to document details such as business categories, ownership structure, operational size, and geographic location, creating what authorities describe as a more organised economic framework for the region.

Council officials stressed that the exercise is not a punitive measure but part of broader efforts to support sustainable development and improve coordination between government and the private sector.

In recent years, Ibeju-Lekki has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most strategic investment destinations following the rise of landmark projects such as the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone, developments that have significantly increased commercial activity and population growth in the area.

Authorities believe the enumeration exercise will also help identify infrastructure needs, improve tax administration, and provide better insight into the economic realities of businesses operating within the council.

Business owners and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate fully with field officers, as the council positions Ibeju-Lekki for its next phase of economic transformation and urban expansion.

The local government further assured residents that all information gathered during the exercise would remain confidential and be used strictly for developmental and administrative purposes.
