As people are looking forward to the champion of the 9th edition of the GT Bank Masters Cup between Eko Boy’s High School and Anwar Ul Islam, the coach of Eko Boys High School, Azeez Mustapha in a chat with ECHONEWS has expressed optimism of lifting the trophy, saying he has never lost a final in his managerial career.

“I can only be optimistic. I joined Eko Boys High School as coach in 2017 and it has been a roll since then. We lost out to this opponent in the round of 16 in season 8. And also eventual champion, Igbobi in the quarter final of season 7. So, it has been a roll, but I’m optimistic that we have the right mix and in high spirit to lift the trophy.

“I have never lost a game at the camps mini stadium and I have never lost a final game even before in my career. I know the philosophy of the Anwar ul Islam team, they like to play fancy football, they like to entertain. Once we stop their flow the way Kings College did in the final of season 8. We will get the opportunity to beat them and lift the trophy for the first time since 2014 when the school won it last before I joined though.

“We defeated Kings College to qualify for the final on the 13th of February 2020 before the pandemic that ravaged the world.

“We continue to do our best for our players. Six if our first set of players are now ineligible having finished their WAEC examination and left the school. We have to bring in new players who didn’t have the opportunity to be part of the party in the past, but after morning session today, I can say the team is fired up and ready for the task ahead.”

Mustapha added that his team has not recorded any loss in the competition as they have come out victorious against their opponents.

“It has been a great competition. We have not lost a game in this competition. We started by winning all our games in the group of death which featured the like of Saint Finbaars Akoka , FSTC Yaba, Apostolic Secondary School, Ketu and Avi Cenna. We defeated all four schools to finish the group with a perfect record of 12 points.

“In the round of 16, we also made soft work of our opponents. The highlight of the competition was the quarter Final game against Bakare disu of Agege. We defeated them 4 – 1 before sending home defending Champions 2 – 0 in the Semi final.”
