Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Muibi Folawiyo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to proactive environmental sanitation.

Through his Supervisor for Works, Saheed Oshoja, and Special Adviser on Environment, Ganiyu Aroworade, the LCDA has embarked on large-scale clean-up operations, particularly desilting and clearing of drainages along Adeniji Adele Road and across various parts of the council area.

“My administration, through my Supervisor for Works, Saheed Oshoja and Special Adviser on Environment, Ganiyu Aroworade, continued large-scale clean-up efforts to prevent flooding and ensure drainage efficiency by desilting and clearing of drainages along Adeniji Adele Road end and across the LCDA as part of my administration’s proactive efforts to maintain proper environmental sanitation and prevent flooding within our communities,” he said.

“Desilting of drainages involves removing silt, sand and fine sediments that accumulate in drainage infrastructure, reducing hydraulic capacity and increasing the risk of blockages. This process is vital for maintaining the efficiency, safety and environmental compliance of drainage systems.

“My administration remains committed to ensuring a clean, safe and healthy environment across my constituency. Regular maintenance of drainage infrastructure continues to be a key part of my administration’s strategy to promote environmental sustainability and safeguard the wellbeing of my people.

“I urge all residents to collaborate with the government in maintaining the cleanliness and free flow of drainage channels by not dumping refuse into drainages and canals.”

The Chairman emphasized that sustained maintenance of drainage systems remains central to his administration’s environmental agenda, calling on residents to play their part by refraining from indiscriminate refuse disposal.

This ongoing intervention is expected to significantly reduce flood risks during the rainy season and improve overall living conditions within the LCDA.
