Clubs battle ready for Lagos FA Cup as it begins on Wednesday

One of the oldest cup competition in Nigeria, the WGB Lagos FA Cup is set to begin on Wednesday 25th of May 2022 across sport centers in Lagos.

127 men clubs and 10 women clubs have been approved by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) to take part in the WGB Lagos FA Cup.

Speaking at the draws of the competition, the chairman technical committee of Lagos FA, Adedotun Coker said the first rounds of matches in the Lagos FA Cup will be between rookie clubs, while the professional league clubs will begin their campaign in the round of 32 of the WGB Lagos FA Cup.

“We are looking forward to the 58 rook teams that would slug it out in the first round. We have decided that 29 teams would qualify for the next stage from the rooky matches. The NNL and NLO teams would begin their campaign in rounds 16 and 32 of the FA Cup so presently what we are going to witness on Wednesday is rooky matches in various centres, “he said.

Coker said matches would be played across the Sports centres in the states. Among the venues selected for the game are Strong Tower football pitch, Ikorodu, Zumaratu football pitch, Ikorodu, Odion Ighalo sports centre, Ajegunle, Unity Primary School, Ajegunle, Legacy pitch of National Stadium, Surulere, Alade sports centre, Ipaja Command and Rehabilitation centre, Isheri, Ojodu Berger.

Coker said all the teams should formalize their documentation before the commencement of the tournament saying that the organisers are not ready for any unnecessary work for teams.
