Ajibade Backs Super Falcons Replacements Ahead Of Comoros Olympics Qualifier Clash
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria skipper, Rasheedat Ajibade has backed the players called up to replace injured teammates ahead of Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying encounter against Comoros at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne while describing the changes as an opportunity for others to prove their worth, ECHONEWS reports.
Ajibade acknowledged the importance of the players who will miss the encounter but said that injuries and changes in personnel are part of football, insisting that Nigeria must have enough depth to cope with such situations.
The captain said the Super Falcons must continue to develop their pool of talented players rather than depend on the same individuals for every match.
“Every player that is on the team right now is very important. The ones that I know are also on the team are very important, but you know, this is football and it is life, and football, sometimes you have players in and out, there are injuries and all of that,” Ajibade said.
She added that the situation highlights the need for Nigeria to build a strong talent pool capable of providing adequate cover whenever established players are unavailable.
“So these are things as a nation, we have a talent pool, we have to be prepared for this, because apparently you will not get to play the same players every time, and you will not get to see all of the players every time.”
Ajibade further explained that the changes would give other members of the squad an opportunity to grow, develop and demonstrate their ability to contribute to the national team.
“So it’s an opportunity for the rest of the players to also grow, evolve, and show that they fit into that space.
“Though we do miss them, but yeah, it’s also an opportunity for others to grow and evolve. So everyone is important.”
The Super Falcons are preparing for their Olympic qualifying fixture against Comoros in Ikenne as they seek to advance in the race for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
