Two adult men were rescued after a fire broke out at a residential property on Onitire Road, Itire, Lagos, damaging an eight-room bungalow and spreading to part of an adjoining two-storey building.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received the emergency call at about 9:10 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 43 Onitire Road, near Smith Bus Stop, by 9:35 p.m. and immediately began firefighting and rescue operations.

During the response, officers rescued a 75-year-old man who uses a wheelchair from the bungalow. A 42-year-old man who had sustained burn injuries while attempting to save the elderly resident was also brought out safely. The injured man was taken to Gbagada General Hospital by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for treatment.

The fire severely damaged the bungalow and its contents. It also affected a three-bedroom flat on the upper floor of the neighbouring two-storey residential building, which sustained minor damage.

The blaze was successfully brought under control. Preliminary assessment by the fire service suggested that negligence leading to an electrical surge may have triggered the incident, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, used the opportunity to advise residents to maintain electrical installations properly, avoid overloading sockets and engage qualified electricians for inspections and repairs. No lives were lost in the incident.
