UNILAG To Host 3,000 Students For Bodex Social Media Hangout

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) will on December 10 welcome about 3,000 secondary and tertiary students from across the state for the seventh edition of the Bodex Social Media Hangout, a youth-focused gathering designed to sharpen digital skills and encourage purposeful online influence.

Organised by Bodex Media and convened by PR and digital strategist Bodex Hungbo, the Students’ Day event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Distance Learning Institute Hall. Participants will be drawn from nine tertiary institutions and 11 secondary schools in Lagos, bringing together young people for a mix of learning, competition and networking under the theme “Influence with Purpose: Shaping Africa’s Digital Future.”

The programme builds on six previous editions held between 2019 and 2025. This year’s lineup includes debates, quiz competitions, practical digital media masterclasses and a campaign deck challenge in which students will develop and present communication strategies that convert creative ideas into compelling campaigns. Organisers say the exercise is intended to equip participants with both technical know-how and the confidence to engage responsibly on digital platforms while exploring opportunities in the growing digital economy.

Cash prizes totalling ₦2.2 million will be shared among the top three performers in the campaign challenge, with the winner taking ₦1 million, the runner-up ₦700,000 and the third-place contestant ₦500,000. The student judged to have produced the best campaign deck will also receive a brand-new phone in addition to the cash award.

Beyond the formal sessions, the day will feature interactive games, raffle draws, giveaways and certificates of participation. Refreshments from Bodex Foods will be available. Hungbo has described the hangout as a platform that creates space for students to learn from industry professionals, showcase talent and build connections across institutions.

As social media continues to shape how young Nigerians learn, create and communicate, events such as the Bodex Social Media Hangout seek to move the conversation beyond mere visibility toward intentional and responsible influence. For the thousands of students expected at UNILAG in December, the gathering offers both a competitive stage and a practical introduction to the skills that increasingly define opportunity in Africa’s digital space.
