FG Automates Academic Certificate Authentication, Ends Physical Visits To Ministry

Nigerians seeking to evaluate or authenticate their academic certificates will no longer have to make physical trips to the Federal Ministry of Education, following the full automation of the process by the Federal Government.
The new system allows applicants to complete the evaluation and authentication of their academic credentials entirely online, a move the government says will make the process faster, more transparent and easier to access, particularly for Nigerians living outside the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, describing it as part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of education governance.
Under the new arrangement, applicants can submit their requests and complete the required procedures through the ministry’s dedicated online credential evaluation and authentication platform.
The reform is expected to reduce the bureaucratic delays associated with the previous process, while eliminating the need for applicants to travel to the ministry simply to have their academic qualifications evaluated or authenticated.
Alausa said the digital system would improve service delivery by speeding up processing, reducing bottlenecks and making the service more accessible to Nigerians and applicants based abroad.
He also said the reform would help strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s academic certification system by creating a more structured process for institutions, employers and other stakeholders to verify academic qualifications.
“This initiative is a major step in our digital transformation agenda and demonstrates our commitment to using technology to modernise education governance and improve service delivery,” the minister said.
The development could particularly benefit Nigerians applying for jobs, further studies, professional opportunities and other programmes that require authenticated academic credentials, especially those living outside the country who previously had to deal with the physical processes involved.
The ministry said the new system would handle requests and related procedures digitally from start to finish, removing the need for applicants to visit government offices for certificate evaluation and authentication.
Alausa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to using technology to improve institutional efficiency and provide more citizen-centred services.
The minister urged applicants requiring the service to access the official credential evaluation and authentication platform and complete the necessary procedures online.
