American reality television star Kourtney Kardashian has opened up about a miscarriage she and her husband, Travis Barker, suffered early in their relationship, revealing that the experience left them devastated.

Kardashian said she became pregnant about 6 months after her long-standing friendship with the Blink-182 drummer turned into a romantic relationship in 2021.

The couple were expecting a baby girl and had already chosen the name Tulip before losing the pregnancy at about 3 months.

Barker recalled how they received the devastating news during a medical appointment after doctors discovered that the baby no longer had a heartbeat.

“When we lost the baby, we were devastated. We just laid in bed and cried for days,” Kardashian said.

The 47-year-old made the disclosure in Barker’s new documentary, Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, which premiered on Hulu on August 13.

Kardashian said the couple had desperately wanted to have a child together and initially believed everything had fallen into place when she became pregnant.

Following the miscarriage, their doctor recommended in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The couple subsequently underwent 5 IVF attempts over 8 months, but none resulted in a successful pregnancy.

The reality star said the treatment took a significant physical and emotional toll on her, leaving her feeling as though her body was shutting down.

She recalled becoming increasingly disappointed after each unsuccessful attempt before eventually telling Barker that she could no longer continue with the treatment.

The couple later decided to stop IVF and leave open the possibility of conceiving naturally.

About a year later, Kardashian became pregnant without fertility treatment, and she and Barker welcomed their son, Rocky Thirteen Barker, in November 2023.

The couple had previously documented parts of their fertility journey on their family’s reality series, The Kardashians, but had not publicly revealed the earlier miscarriage.

Barker said they decided to share the experience because many people could relate to pregnancy loss, unsuccessful IVF treatment and the emotional strain associated with trying to have a child.

He expressed hope that their story would help people experiencing miscarriage or fertility challenges feel less alone.
