Residents of Palm Avenue, Mushin, were thrown into confusion on Friday night after a sand truck toppled a row of electricity poles while delivering materials to a construction site at No. 4 Palm Avenue, near the popular Amu Timber Market.
Eyewitnesses said the driver accidentally hooked overhead power lines while offloading sand. As the truck’s cabin lowered, it dragged down a wooden pole in front of the site, triggering a domino effect that brought down about eight poles—both wooden and concrete—leaving live wires scattered across the busy street.
The incident immediately plunged the area into darkness, disrupting homes and businesses.
“This is not just about restoring light; it’s about preventing future disasters,” lamented Mrs. Yetunde Olaleye, a community leader. “We can’t afford to live in fear whenever trucks pass through our street.”
Residents have since appealed to officials of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company and the construction site owner to take swift action in repairing the damage and restoring power.
As of press time, Palm Avenue and adjoining streets remained without electricity, with residents anxiously awaiting intervention.
