A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expert, Mrs. Georgina Eigbe has given reasons why companies in the locality need to give back to their host communities.

Eigbe, the founder of Wazobia Foundation, in an exclusive interview with ECHONEWS, noted that corporate organisations in the community need to do more CSR to complement governments’ developmental efforts.

According to her, CSR projects from corporate organisations help fill the lapses of development in various areas which include training, infrastructural development, provision of needed facilities in public schools, hospitals and youth centres in the community which, she said, the government could not do alone.

She explained that beyond helping the community to achieve their development goals on all possible fronts, CSR also helps organisations in creating and sustaining cordial relationships with their host communities, a factor she described as critical to the continuous and peaceful existence of the organisation in the community.

Her words: “CSR is very important to the company because it is a way of recognising your host community and giving back to support the development of the area in which you are operating. For the local communities, it is a way for company to grow and develop and fulfil certain provisions that require additional funding beyond the limited government funds. CSR is meant to complement the government’s work and provide fulfilling investment opportunities to its local communities.

She said there are more things that could be done in terms of CSR by businesses and corporate organisations, saying they need to understand the needs of the community by working with the stakeholders.

She added that business organisations also need the help of trusted CSR outsourcing partner such as her Wazobia Foundation to effectively allocate their CSR budget to the most impactful projects within their host communities.
