5 schools make MTN Spelling Bee final

Five out of 13 Lagos State Private Schools in District 6 made it to the final at the MTN Spelling Bee competition held at Apata Memorial School, Ire-Akari, Okota Isolo, during the weekend.

 

After the final competition, the overall winners would become the representatives of the MTN CEO in addition to their other prizes.

The competition was held among schools in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area as 13 schools including Effortswill, Ostra, Grandmates, Apata, Jeed, Kembos Schools and others participated,

During the first round of the competition, three students represented each school making 39 contestants who were reduced to 21 at the second round.

 

The competition began to get tougher when three other contestants were disqualified to remain 18 participants from Apata Memorial, Jeed Trinity, Kembos, De Basic Inauguration School and Effortswill for the third round.

With seriousness from each representative coupled with short time of 10 seconds to spell out words, 11 contestants were able to make it to the fourth round of the competition.

 

Out of the six contestants who remained during the fifth round, contestant number 13 from Apata Memorial School was eliminated, reducing the number to just five representatives to participate in the final stage of the MTN Spelling Bee.

 

Commenting on the competition, the facilitator of the event, Mr. Gbenga Akinmoyo, said the final would be done at Holy Child College in Ikoyi on Tuesday, November19, 2019.
