The Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Muibi Folawiyo, has approved the recruitment of additional members into the sanitation corps of the council’s Environmental Sanitation Department.

The move forms part of the administration’s renewed commitment to strengthening environmental enforcement and sustaining a cleaner, healthier city.

Announcing the recruitment, Folawiyo stated that the new officers will join existing corps members to intensify monitoring and compliance efforts across the LCDA.

“The new recruitment drive is aimed at maintaining orderliness, ensuring public health and promoting environmental sustainability across Lagos Island East LCDA,” he said.

According to the chairman, the expanded sanitation team will focus on key areas including monitoring compliance with environmental laws, curbing indiscriminate dumping of refuse, discouraging street trading in restricted areas, and enforcing proper waste management practices in all parts of the LCDA.

“This expansion will boost our capacity to ensure strict environmental compliance and maintain cleaner, healthier and more orderly public spaces across Lagos Island East.”

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication, the chairman noted the broader importance of the initiative.

“I want to reaffirm my administration’s commitment to creating a Cleaner City that prioritizes public health, safety and environmental sustainability, noting that effective sanitation enforcement remains crucial to the city’s broader beautification agenda.”

Once trained and deployed, the new officers are expected to collaborate closely with existing sanitation teams and community stakeholders to promote a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

The recruitment aligns with the city’s long-term Cleaner Initiative, which seeks to embed sustainable environmental practices across Lagos.
