The Coordinator of United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), Oshodi-Isolo LG, Mr. Afeez Adesanya, has revealed that no fewer than 633 people have been trained by the body within two months, saying they are targeting about 500 youths in the scheme.

Adesanya said the body trained the participants in seven different fields within the two months he assumed office as the coordinator of the centre.

According to him, the participants who acquired vocational skills in the seven different fields such as Bag making, Screen printing, Household chemical products, photography, Catering, Cocktail drinks, etc, and have been graduated to start the jobs on their own.

Adesanya, who harped on the importance of vocational skills as the best way to reduce unemployment, charged the youths to embrace the opportunities offered by the body or any other organisation.

He disclosed that the centre will soon unveil its next free training programme which will be on technical aspects such as solar light and inverter skill training to positively keep the hands and minds of the youths busy.

He said more than 100 youths across Oshodi-Isolo LGA are targeted for the next free training programme on solar and inverter skill acquisition.

He hinted that the training will come up in November 2021 covering two weeks of intensive training for the registered participants.

He urged the youths to be on alert for details about the next programme, which he said, will soon be communicated to the general public.

“I want to encourage the youths and women to embrace vocational trainings for their own good. I also want to urge the government to see vocational training as a game-changer to national development and socio-economic stability to reduce unemployment and crime in the society.”

He, however, appreciated the effort of the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo LG, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede (Kendoo) towards youth development, stating that the council authority has been supporting the centre on its activities.

“I have the best chairman to work with and I am ready to put in my best to compliment his support,” Adesanya commented.
