Sanwo-Olu Honours Lagos Local Government Workers for Years of Dedicated Service
By Emmanuel Daniji
LAGOS — Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has recognised the dedication and years of service of officers within the Unified Local Government Service, describing their contributions to grassroots administration as deserving of appreciation.
The Governor gave the commendation through his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, who represented him at the 2026 Long Service Merit Award Ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Lagos.
The ceremony brought together government officials, stakeholders and public servants to celebrate workers who have spent years serving the state and contributing to the delivery of government services at the local level.
Celebrating the People Behind Grassroots Governance
Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the commitment of the award recipients and described their years of service as worthy of recognition.
For many of the workers being celebrated, public service has involved decades of routine responsibilities that often take place away from the spotlight.
From administrative duties to community-level service delivery, local government officers play a direct role in how government policies and programmes reach residents.
The Governor noted that their dedication remains particularly important to effective grassroots administration and the delivery of essential government services across Lagos.
More Than an Award
The long-service ceremony also provided an opportunity to recognise the professionalism and sacrifices that come with a career in public service.
Years spent working within government can mean serving through different administrations, policies and changing social and economic conditions while maintaining the responsibilities attached to public office.
By celebrating these workers, the state government also highlighted the human side of governance—the people whose daily efforts help keep public institutions functioning.
The award recipients were therefore commended for their steadfast commitment to Lagos State and its residents.
Recognising Commitment
The ceremony ultimately served as a reminder that public service is not only about major government projects or high-profile political decisions.
It is also about the employees who report to work every day, attend to residents, process government services and support the machinery of administration at the grassroots.
For the officers honoured at the 2026 Long Service Merit Award Ceremony, the recognition marked a moment to look back on years of work and sacrifice.
And for Lagos State, the celebration was an opportunity to say thank you to the people who have spent a significant part of their lives serving the state and its communities.
