LAGOS — Residents of Owoseni community in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) are set to benefit from a new road project as the Lagos State Government begins construction of the 115-metre Owoseni Road.

The project was officially flagged off on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity and extend basic infrastructure to communities that have historically received less attention than major urban centres.

The commencement of the project brings renewed attention to the everyday challenges faced by residents in underserved communities, where poor road networks can affect movement, businesses, access to services and the general quality of life.

Government Takes Infrastructure to the Grassroots

Representing Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu at the flag-off ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, said the intervention demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches communities at the grassroots.

According to Agbaje, the government’s rural development strategy is focused on addressing essential infrastructure needs, particularly roads, potable water and electricity.

He explained that the Owoseni Road project is expected to make movement easier for residents, improve connections to adjoining communities and create a better environment for local businesses and economic activities.

For residents, the significance of the project goes beyond the construction of another stretch of road. A functional road can determine how easily people move to markets, schools, workplaces, healthcare facilities and other parts of the community.

A Road for Everyday Life

The 115-metre road is expected to provide a more reliable route for residents and other road users within the area.

Improved connectivity could also make it easier for small businesses to move goods and services, while potentially reducing the difficulties associated with navigating poorly developed roads.

Agbaje assured residents that the government would work towards completing the project within the expected timeframe.

He also appealed to community members to cooperate with the contractor and project officials throughout the construction period.

Residents Asked to Protect the Project

The Special Adviser urged residents to see the road as a collective community asset and take responsibility for protecting it after completion.

He stressed that proper maintenance would be essential to ensuring that the government investment remains useful for many years.

The appeal is particularly important because newly constructed roads can quickly deteriorate when drainage systems are blocked, roadsides are encroached upon or heavy activities damage the infrastructure.

Part of Wider Grassroots Development

The Owoseni Road project forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader push to improve infrastructure outside the state’s major commercial centres.

Agbaje reiterated that the administration would continue to focus on grassroots infrastructure and community development, with the wider goal of achieving more balanced development across Lagos.

For the people of Owoseni, however, the immediate concern is much simpler: having a road that makes everyday movement easier.

And as construction begins, residents will now look forward to seeing the 115-metre promise transformed into a road they can actually use.
