Lagos Area Boys Protest Against Planned FBI Office In Nigeria

Some area boys in Lagos have taken to the streets to protest against the planned establishment of an FBI office in Nigeria, questioning what they described as the United States agency’s interest in operating more closely within the country.
In a video circulating online, the protesters were seen carrying placards as one of the demonstrators repeatedly chanted into a microphone: “Say no to FBI office in Nigeria.”
The protester questioned why the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States’ principal federal law enforcement agency, wanted to establish an office in Nigeria.
He also accused the US agency of oppressing Nigerian youths, although he did not provide specific evidence to support the allegation.
“What have Nigerian youths done to you that you are oppressing them?” he asked.
The demonstrator further questioned what he described as the focus on Nigerian youths while criminal activities such as banditry continue to affect communities across the country.
“If you can’t help us, go back to your country,” he said.
The protesters were seen displaying placards during the demonstration, although details about the organisers, the exact location of the protest and whether the demonstration was formally authorised were not immediately clear.
The development comes amid growing discussions around cooperation between Nigerian and US law enforcement agencies, particularly in tackling cybercrime, financial crimes and other forms of transnational criminal activity.
The protesters, however, appeared to be opposed to a greater physical presence of the FBI in Nigeria, expressing concerns over what they perceive as the treatment of Nigerian youths by US authorities.
The claims made during the protest remain the views of the demonstrators and have not been independently established.
A video of the protest has continued to circulate online, drawing attention to the protesters’ demand that the planned FBI presence in Nigeria be reconsidered.
