A cop, CPL Adegoroye Oluwarotimi, has been severely assaulted by two commuters at Shasha after he aided the rescue of Balogun Sunday who was brutally attacked by the suspects.

The suspects, Friday Awara (36), and Arinze Egbe and others at large were said to have brutalized Balogun, a commercial bus driver. The incident caught the attention of Oluwarotimi who was on official duty at Isiwo Police point, Shasha.

The suspects and others at large believed the cop wanted to use the opportunity to arrest and extort money from them and with such thought in mind, they descended on him as he came over to the scene.

However, having managed an escape, Oluwarotimi went to the police station and reported what happened to him. It was gathered that other officers at the station mobilised, arrested the two suspects and brought them to the police station.

In addition, the suspects were alledged to have also violently attacked one Sergeant Inah Monday at the station during prosecution.

They were later charged for assault and brought before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for the alleged offence.

They pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Teslimi Shomade granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 16 May, 2018.
