Police arrest 25 suspected robbers, cultists in Ejigbo

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 25 persons for robbery and cultism related activities at Ejigbo, Ago-Okota and Oshodi areas of the state at different occasions, as disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, at the Police Headquaters, Ikeja.

The robbery suspects arrested in Ejigbo area are Adebayo Gbenga (23); Ashiru Dele (29); Damilare Fagbemi (23); Osondu Obodo (24), and Akeem Muibi (35).

Speaking during the parade of the suspects, Imohimi stated that there was a distress call to the Police at Ejigbo Division by residents at NNPC, Ejigbo who complained of robbery attack on them and their properties ranging from mobile phones, handbags and others.

At the Police Division, Ejigbo, the arrest of a 35-year-old suspected burglar, Akeem Muibi, who was alleged to have broken into a shop in Ejigbo, carting away goods worth thousands of naira was confirmed.

Muibi, a notorious robber according to residents in the area, met his waterloo on Sunday when he made a way into a grocery shop belonging to one Mallam Sani Ali and stole some goods.

However, residents saw him and raised alarm and gave him a chase. He was eventually arrested and handed over to the police at Ejigbo Division.

The Police boss told newsmen that the suspect hid himself in a soakaway to evade arrest and disclosed that another group of robbers was apprehended on the same day.

“Although he fled the scene, he was eventually arrested in a nearby soakaway pit where he had hidden himself to evade arrest. All the items he stole were recovered from him. He has also made a confessional statement. He will soon be charged to court,” Imohimi said.

He continued: “We also arrested Fatai Adeshina, 32 years of age, who was caught vandalizing a Toyota Corolla car at Community Road, Ago Okota. He confessed on the operation he was arrested for. Exhibits recovered from him include the brain box of the car and four door control panels.

“Also arrested in Ejigbo are: Damilare Fagbemi – 23 years and Osondu Obodo – 24 years on account of stealing. They will all be charged to court.”

Meanwhile, a band of five machete-wielding hoodlums, who attacked innocent citizens and destroyed properties on October 11 this year, was also arrested on Tuesday morning from their various hideouts at Oshodi.

The suspects were arrested after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Akinpelu Police Station, SP Oladimeji Sunday, led a team of operatives to their hideouts.

The suspects include Emmanuel Ebere, also known as Marceto (25); Timilehi Onijaka (20); Rasaq Wasiu (23); Yakubu (22), and Emmanuel Edesewehen (21).

Among the 25 arrested suspects, 15 persons, including two teenagers, were nabbed at various locations in the state for cultism while having their initiation rites based on intelligence.

They are Price Chimeterem (28); Obiora Victor (30); Ifeanyi Uche (23); Ufon Udosen (21); Gbenga Ogundijo (42); Radi Taiyo (19); Owoyemi Toheeb (19); Adewale John (23); Olawale Adams (20); Ramon Sodiq, 28; Adewunmi Oluwasheyi (30); Omolade Samuel (16); Ekene Stanley (30); Chamberlin Anikam (22), and Oche Atah (30).

The Commissioner stated that the police would continue to act towards making the state free from crimes, urging young ones to always shun crimes and other nefarious acts.
