We want the people in Oshodi to be identified with good and not bad
things all the time and that was what made us to decide that the kind
of development going on in Victoria island,Lekki and other places
should take place in Oshodi as well.I mean,I find it very disturbing
that children in Oshodi would have to travel to Lekki or Ikeja to
have access to good shopping mall. So what we have decided is to
regenerate Oshodi”
These were the words of Governor Akinwumi Ambode during the inception of the bus terminal project in Oshodi last year.
The execution of that promise has led to the closure of the famous Oshodi heritage park.
With the passing of each day, it cedes grounds to the advancing work on the bus terminal project.
The intention of the Lagos State government is to consolidate all the 13 city and interstate parks in
the area into a 3 multi -storey bus terminals, turning Lagos in Lagos into a
befitting and an iconic international gateway,an organized transport
system that will ensure free flowing traffic.
To achieve this project,15 months had been slated for the work to be completed.
However, according to the public relations officer (PRO)of the terminal planet
project, the December 2017 target for the project to be completed is no longer realistic due to weather conditions, though work
is on going in the three terminal sites.
Looking at the progress at the sites, terminal 3 has gone beyond first
decking which marked the lead site of the three sites, followed by
terminal 2 which is just right at its first decking and terminal one
is just above foundation level.
Echonews learnt that the government has promised to compensate the owners of the heritage garden for their loss.
