The Chairman of Isolo LCDA Olasoju Adebayo made an early morning visit to Ago Medical Centre in Okota axis of the council area which was razed by fire on Friday evening.
The council boss visited the facility to asses the level of damage done and, of course, empathise with the owner.
The Chief of Staff, Hon. Musbau Quadri led the council delegation to the scene on behalf of the council boss. On hand to receive the delegation was the proprietor of the facility, Dr. Kolawole Afolabi who gave a brief account of how the devastating inferno occurred.
“The destruction is much but we have every reason to be grateful to God because there was no casualty. The staff was able to rescue the in-patients in the nick of time before the raging fire could wreak havoc. Almost all the medical facilities are gone. The theatre and all. Above all, everyone is safe and that’s enough reason to be grateful to God,” the aged proprietor said.
Giving a detailed explanation of how the incident happened, the General Manager, Dare Moses, explained that the incident was caused by an electrical surge from the first floor of the one-storey building. He added that screams from passers-by were what alerted the staffers and before anything could be done, like a wildfire, the inferno had extended to other parts of the building, sparing almost no part.
He acknowledged the concerted efforts of Lagos State Emergency Agency in preventing the fire from spreading further. He however, lamented that the raging fire had left a tragic destruction on the facility.
In his remarks after a tour around the facility, Quadri expressed his deepest sympathy as he expressed his optimism that the incident will be that of the proverbial burnt palace which is often an avenue to build a more befitting one.
Other members of the delegation included the Councillor representing Apena Ward, Hon. Yusuf Agbabiaka, and the Chief Press Secretary to the council boss, Rasheed Iskilu.
