Veteran Nollywood actor, Olaiya Igwe, has dismissed reports that he is seriously ill, explaining that a viral video which sparked concern among fans was actually taken while he was acting in a movie.
The video, which circulated on social media last week, showed the actor appearing weak and unwell, leading to speculation about his health.
However, Olaiya Igwe said the footage was from a movie set where he was playing the role of a sick father in a film directed by veteran actor and filmmaker, Mr Latin.
The actor explained that the scene was so convincing that some viewers believed he was genuinely battling an illness and began contacting people to check on his wellbeing.
Speaking via his Instagram page, Olaiya Igwe expressed disappointment over people who appeared to celebrate the false reports while appreciating fans and colleagues who reached out to him.
“I have seen some people wishing me to die. For those who are genuinely concerned, please relax. There is no problem. I was only acting my role, as you all know, I am a versatile actor,” he said.
He further explained that the viral footage was recorded during the production of the movie and urged those who were concerned about him not to panic.
“It was an Oga Latin movie we were shooting, and one of the scenes required me to play a sick father. It went viral and brought concern from the public. Some understood that I was only acting, while others thought I was actually sick and checked up on me.
“For those wishing me evil, evil will be their portion. I am okay and there is nothing wrong with me,” the actor added.
His clarification comes after the video generated widespread concern among fans and social media users who had assumed that the actor’s appearance in the clip reflected his actual health condition.
