Lagos Court Prosecutes Man Over Rape

The Lagos State Offences and Domestic Court is prosecuting a man, Olaoluwa Fakoyede over an alleged rape of a 20-year-old lady.

At the court premises in Ikeja, the 27-year-old alleged was arrainged before Justice Abiola Soladoye, on a two-count trial bordering on conspiracy to commit rape as charged by the Lagos State Government.

The defendant however denied the alleged offence.

Nevertheless, the prosecution counsel, Abimbola Abolade, who applied for a trial date to assemble witnesses informed the court that the defendant with one other still at large, allegedly committed the offence on April 23, 2020 at about 3:00 a.m. at Cappa in Oshodi, Lagos.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 260 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Justice Soladoye adjourned the case to June 10 for the commencement of trial, and ordered the remand of the defendant in prison pending the hearing of his bail application.

In another court proceeding, The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Miracle Anosike, for allegely being in possession of Indian hemp.

Anosike faced trial before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of being in possession of Indian hemp and smoking the substance.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 7, at about 8.00a.m at the Mobikan Hotel, Ajangbadi, Ojo area of Lagos State.

Adeosun said, “The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by smoking a substance suspected to be India hemp with the intent to cause havoc in the hotel.”

“His offences contravened Sections 411, and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.”

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Popoola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He held that one of the sureties must either be a Chief Imam or a company Director.

Popoola adjourned the case until April 30, for mention.
